FIFE Council has confirmed that it will be accepting Afghani refugees when they begin arriving in Scotland.
Due to the Taliban crisis in Afghanistan, many thousands are doing whatever they can to escape the country with world nations beginning to offer the refugees a safe place.
Last week, the UK government announced that it would accept 20,000 refugees over a four year period, with 5,000 in the first year.
A spokesperson for Fife Council confirmed to the Times that as of June this year, a total of 10 families would be coming to the Kingdom, but given the quick escalation in the crisis, this number would now be reviewed with a view to taking more.
A spokesperson for the local authority said: “As of June 2021, we had given a commitment to the Home Office to accept 10 families. Due to the current situation, we're now assessing our capacity to take more families.
“This work will be done in consultation with our senior politicians and Chief Executive over the next week.”
