FOLLOWING the news that BiFab has not been successful in securing any contracts related to SSE’s Seagreen offshore wind farm, Cowdenbeath MSP Annabelle Ewing has written to the Minister for Energy, Connectivity and the Islands, airing her concern that none of the contract has come to Fife.
Speaking this afternoon, Ms Ewing said: “I was very concerned to read the announcement by SSE Renewables at the weekend and to learn that BiFab had not been successful in securing any of the contracts relating to SEE’s Seagreen offshore wind farm.
“I know that the Scottish Government pushed for Bifab to win contracts for at least some of the turbine jackets and I have written to Paul Wheelhouse MSP, the Scottish Government Minister with responsibility for Energy expressing my concerns.
“I have asked Mr Wheelhouse to let me know what work is underway to ensure that future work can be secured for the yards and I hope that we will hear better news when the contracts for the Neart na Gaoithe windfarm are announced.
“In particular, I have sought further information regarding Scottish Government representations to the UK Government seeking an urgent reform of the Contract for Difference scheme.”
Ms Ewing fears that people from her constituency who should be benefitting jobs from the project taking place just a few miles off the Fife coast, are being left out of the picture.
