THE Sunset Spirit are in generous mood as they prepare for a charity fundraiser.
Stressing their desire to "give back", the Cowdenbeath six-piece will play a headline show in Crossgates to raise money for Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) - Rachel House.
Stuart Shields, lead singer and guitar, said: “We thought it was important to give something back and do it for a great cause.
“We wanted to host a night of live music locally with local bands and singer-songwriters, and Stuart Watson (Rubber Stamp Promotions) was keen to help.
“We have worked with Stuart a lot in the past and we have had great success so we thought we would make this one a bit special and help raise funds for a local charity. It’s always important to give something back to the community if you ever have the opportunity and being in a band with so many other local musicians willing to help makes it a lot of fun for everyone involved.
"I contacted Rachael House and they were over the moon that we had chosen to host a night of live music to raise some funds for their cause. They have also been a great help in getting things off the ground for the gig.”
It’s been a busy year so far for Sunset Spirit, who were one of four finalists in this year’s Dunfermline Press and Central Fife Times Live Music Award. They performed on stage at the Glen Pavilion in June with Foreignfox and Between the Lines, as well as eventual winner Steve James.
The nomination came as a great surprise and Stuart said: “It means a lot as this band has been on the go for four years now. We’ve done a lot of gigging around our local area and played our part in local festivals and events so it was good to be recognised in that way, especially being in the final with three other top bands.”
The awards came two weeks after the release of their latest single ‘Tonight’, recorded by Magnus Collie at Substation Studio in Rosyth.
The gig (8pm) takes place on Saturday, August 31 at the British Legion in Crossgates.
Tickets cost £8 online from Ticketweb and £10 on the door.
