EVERY effort is being made to keep on top of fly-tipping in the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area.

Liz Watson, of Fife Council's Safer Communities team, told Cowdenbeath Area Committee, said that over 800 patrols had been made and in that time 208 complaints about tipping had been received from the public.

Ms Watson told councillors: "Along with colleagues from Parks, Streets and Open Spaces, Wate Management and Resource Efficient Solutions officers worked collectively to tackle fly-tipping issues experience in and around recycling points and centres.

"Problematic sites were investigated along with dumped waste and offenders were pursued where appropriate by issuing warnings or fixed penalties."

She added: "A '12 days of Christmas' campaign last year encouraging people to do the right thing and not dump waste proved successful and a video released as part of it and over 18,000 were reached through it.

"We plan to run an improved version of the campaign this coming festive season."
