ALTHOUGH the weather conditions were not very good at the start, Lumphinnans Fun Day went ahead as planned.

The rain posed a few problems in the morning in getting things set up at the Gagarin Way football pitches but these were put in place despite the weather.

The Lumphinnans Social Group's volunteers worked really hard all morning to ensure that the day went on despite, at times, torrential rain.

As the weather got better towards mid-day the decision to let things go ahead was the right one and while there was not as many taking part as there would have been had the sun been high in the sky all day, there were still people enjoying themselves in decent numbers.

Said Lumphinnans Social Group's Linda Schiavone: "The weather was rubbish early on but we are were determined to go ahead with our Fun Day.

"We didn't sell wristbands due to the circumstances so people were able to enjoy unlimited fairground rides. There are tombola stalls and various other stalls."

Linda added that a big marquee was erected and people were able to enjoy the massive tombola stall which had a myriad of prizes thanks to the support of so many people.

The weather forecast indicated that rain would ease off by around 1pm and then the conditions would be on an upward curve and that was the way it turned out.

Added Linda: "After what seemed the worst weather ever on Saturday morning we decided to go ahead with our Funday.

"We have to say thanks thanks to everyone who came along and supported us. It ended up being a great day and the kids had a ball getting the use of the free fairground rides!"
