COWDENBEATH MSP Annabelle Ewing this week praised the teams that are making the Cafe Inc initiative work in the constituency ensuring that children and families are not left without a good meal each day during the summer school break.
Ms Ewing paid a visit to the Café Inc Lunch Club, at Lochgelly Town Hall, to see how it works there.
Speaking following her visit, Ms Ewing congratulated Fife Council on this worthwhile initiative and paid tribute to the efforts of the volunteers who have made it possible, saying: “I was delighted to have been able to get along to the Café Inc Lunch Club, in Lochgelly Town Hall, to thank all those who are providing this vital service.
"I want to pay particular tribute to the volunteers whose help makes the whole thing possible.
“Thanks are due too, to Fife Council, this is a really worthwhile initiative which is being provided across the Kingdom".
She added: “I understand that the take up in Lochgelly, Benarty and Kelty, in particular, has been very high and that demonstrates, in and of itself, the need that is being met by this service over the summer when the schools are on holiday.
“It also, in my view, a real indictment of the UK Government’s austerity agenda and of their dismantling of the social security system.
“Particularly for those families who depend on school lunches during term time, the school holidays can place all sorts of additional strains on the family budget.”
The Cafe Inc initiative operates in Lochgelly, Cowdenbeath, Benarty, Kelty and Cardenden and is now coming to the end of week three.
