THE memory of late boxer Connor Law was honoured by family, friends and the Kelty community during an "emotional" day on Saturday.
The 26-year-old, who sadly passed away last month, was remembered on a poignant afternoon at Blairadam Park that saw Kelty Amateurs, for whom he also played football, play a memorial match against an XI led by his dad, Gary.
That was part of a number of tributes paid to popular Connor, who won all 13 of his professional bouts, which included the unveiling of a memorial bench overlooking the pitch which his team-mates said will ensure he "will always be there".
In a nod to his favourite football team, Celtic, banners and green and white flares were unveiled during a minute's applause before kick-off, while Gary, and Connor's mum Kaye, were presented with framed, and signed, football shirts bearing his name.
Those in attendance also raised around £280 for the Andy's Man Club initiative and Nick Hamilton, who helped organise the memorial match, said: "It went perfectly and we couldn't have asked for better.
"We presented Gary and Kaye with a couple of gifts; his strip, which all the players that played with him signed, and everyone chipped in for a Celtic top that we had signed by Scott Brown, and framed it with a picture of Connor with Scott.
"The display was really impressive – I think a lot of people didn't expect it – and we're looking to fix the two big banners permanently so that Connor's image will always be there at the Quarry.
"The guys on the park put on a show and I think the family were really overwhelmed. It was an emotional day and at least he's got his season ticket now and will always be there.
"After weeks of planning, I'm really delighted with how it went."
The match itself finished 4-3 to the amateurs and Steven Horn, who managed the team for the last three years and is one of their players, commented: "It was a very close game; some of Gary's old team-mates were surprisingly still very good players, and when Gary got on the scoresheet from a dubious penalty decision, it added the icing on the cake for me.
"Everything on the day went great, from the bench unveiling to the display, which I would like to thank everyone who took part in, and also the planning of, a great day.
"It was a team effort I honestly think Connor would have been watching and loving it, and also giggling away to some of the older guys falling over miss-kicks!"
On Kelty Amateurs' Facebook page. Gary posted: "A massive thank you to all, I really don’t know what to write, as I have every emotion and I’m finding it hard to put the correct words together, but much love to everyone".
