FIRST held its Annual General Meeting at their Kirkcaldy base last month and welcomed Claire Baker MSP, elected members, staff from external agencies, clients (both current and past) and family members.
As is customary, two clients spoke to the audience about their Recovery Journeys and experience of being in Residential Rehabilitation.
FIRST Service Manager, Benarty woman April Adam, also took the opportunity to launch the Recovery Stories Book (Version 2) written by clients past and present about their personal battles with addiction and where they are now.
The newly formed Art Group, tutored by local artist Kerry Wilson, who has been involved in successful street art projects in Cowdenbeath and Kelty, had several excellent exhibits for all to see on display.
Chairperson, Allan Russell, also informed the audience of FIRST’s inclusion (by invitation) in this year’s Parliamentary Review (Care Edition) which highlights best practice with FIRST being the only organisation from Scotland included in the publication.
FIRST supports individuals who have drug and/or alcohol issues and wish to change their lifestyle.
The Service operates throughout Fife with staff taking the Service out to local communities for one-to-one appointments.
A range of groupwork is also available and these groups are supported by Staff, Peer Leaders and Volunteers of the organisation. Information about FIRST can be accessed as follows:
