KELTY kart star Dean MacDonald extended his lead at the top of OK Super One British Championship recently.
The Beath High School youngster went into the penultimate round of the championship at Shenington, Gloucestershire, joint top of the standings with rival Oliver Hodgeson but an excellent performance saw him pull clear ahead of the final round in September.
MacDonald was a man on a mission as he sought to come back from the race weekend on July 16-17 as the championship's outright leader and a step closer to racing in the world championships in Bahrain, and in qualifying, he secured third place for his starting position in heats with Hodgeson in second.
The Central Fifer however went on to win both heats, with gaps of 0.75 and 0.35 seconds respectively, and, in the first final, he was led from start to finish to win comfortably with a lead of 1.37 seconds over his main rival in second.
Confidence was flowing for MacDonald and he didn't disappoint in the second final, leading once more from the start to end the race with a gap of 1.17 seconds to second placed Jacob Stilp, while Hodgeson could only managed fourth place.
With the championship concluding in September, MacDonald has extended his lead over Hodgeson by 10 points with a total of 384 and he is in pole position to take the title.
As well as extending his OK Super One lead, MacDonald was competing in the English "E" Championships, a special number plate issued for the OK class in 2016 and, after securing a clean sweep, took the accolade of English champion 2016 and the honour of being the first driver to win the E plate.
