UNDECIDED about the Independence Referendum? Yes Benarty will be holding a public meeting this Thursday, at 7.30pm in Benarty Centre, Ballingry. There are three speakers in the line up. Dennis Canavan was a Labour MP for 25 years and an Independent MSP for eight years. When he announced his retirement in 2007, he was the longest serving parliamentarian in the Scottish Parliament. He now chairs the Advisory Board of YesScotland. Dennis is a passionate advocate of Independence.
Alan Bissett is an author and performer from Falkirk. His satirical poem ‘Vote Britain’ has been a vital hit in the Independence movement. Alan is a member of the National Collective, a creative organisation which supports Scottish Independence.
Carolyn Leckie is a representative and active member of Women for Independence. She served as an MSP in the Scottish Parliament for four years. Carolyn was the daughter of a shipyard worker and was a local trade union leader who represented thousands of hospital workers. She is now studying Law.
Co-chair, Lorna Bett said, “We are really looking forward to hearing three such prominent speakers and giving members of the public the opportunity to ask any questions they may have regarding the referendum.” Co-secretary, William Clarke, agreed stating “These three speakers will give varied opinions about independence. “They are all prominent in the Yes campaign so it will be an interesting and informative meeting. We hope those who are yet undecided come along to hear them”.
