G4, the operatic quartet who soared to fame after being crowned runners-up in The X Factor, are back and 4 were glorious in Glenrothes!
Writes Kerry Black, after millions of sales and sell out tours, the 4 boys who put the pop in POPERA, split up several years ago, only to reunite for a charity concert last year. This led to their current tour.
While three of the original members stayed, they have recruited a babyfaced new bass singer to complete their line up.
They were joined on stage by a four piece band, plus Rock Choir and the beautiful soprano, Lucy Kay, who was runner-up in last year's Britain's Got Talent.
From the moment they appeared, to perform "Bohemian Rhapsody”, the Rothes Halls crowd was transfixed by their outstanding harmonies.
They covered all their previous X Factor material, including, “Freak”, “Life On Mars” and even Britney's “Hit Me Baby One More Time”. Lucy sang several operatic solos then joined them onstage for an amazing rendition of “Barcelona!”
They opened the second half by walking through the audience, stopping for handshakes and selfies, in their sparkling, rhinestone suits, singing “The Circle of Life”.
There was plenty humour in the show, including their medley of current hits, ranging from “Happy”, to “All About The Bass” and “Uptown Funk”, all delivered in their signature style. The best laugh of the evening occurred when they invited their raffle winner onstage to be serenaded by them to the strains of “Amazing Grace”.
From opera, to musicals, to pop hits past and present, G4 were truly glorious in Glenrothes (even if they coudnae pronounce the toon's name richt!)
